IBC collaborates closely with the IGPA on a wide range of issues affecting Idaho barley producers. IGPA is a voluntary grass-roots membership organization that represents barley and wheat producers on state and federal issues.

Budget: IBC contracts with IGPA to conduct programs that will benefit Idaho barley producers. For FY 2019 IBC’s contract is $65,640

National Barley Growers Association

National Barley Growers Association

The NBGA is a national barley advocacy organization that was formed in 1988 to represent the six major barley-producing states, Idaho, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Oregon and Washington. The state of Maryland joined in 1996. NBGA is represented by John Gordley Associates in Washington, D.C. and retains a business office in the state in which the presidency resides.

US Grains Council

US Grains Council

The USGC is the international market development arm of the US feed grains industry, representing corn, sorghum and barley. It was formed in 1960 as a nonprofit trade association and is often referred to as “an FAS cooperator” under the USDA Foreign Agriculture Service’s programs. The USGC operates an office and staff in Washington, D.C. and 11 overseas offices, with market development programs in more than 50 countries. Barley projects include trade servicing, trade teams and promotions in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China and Latin America. Malting barley samples have been distributed to potential buyers in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, China, Colombia, Peru and South Africa. The Council sponsors a worldwide barley mission every other year and a mission to Japan every year.

National Barley Improvement Committee

The NBIC is a consortium of state barley check-off states, malting & brewing industry and university personnel dedicated to maintaining federal research funding for barley and malting barley programs throughout the US. NBIC is staffed by Mike Davis, President, American Malting Barley Association, Milwaukee, WI. NBIC meets once a year in Washington, D.C. to lobby for pre-established federal barley research funding priorities.
